# Linking your inverter

To see your solar data in Check My Solar, you need to **link your Fox Cloud account**. Your inverter must already be connected to Fox Cloud (via the Fox ESS app or portal). Check My Solar then reads data from Fox Cloud; it does not talk to your inverter directly.

You can link in two ways: **Quick Connect** (recommended) or **API key**.

---

## Quick Connect (OAuth)

1. On the “Link Your Fox Cloud Account” screen, leave **Quick Connect** selected.
2. Tap **Connect with Fox Cloud** (or **Re-authenticate with Fox Cloud** if your session expired).
3. You’re sent to **Fox Cloud** to sign in and approve access for Check My Solar.
4. After you approve, you’re redirected back; the app links your account and discovers your inverter(s).

**Benefits:**

- No API key to copy or store
- The app can refresh the connection when needed
- Read-only access to your solar data

If your Fox Cloud session expires later, you’ll see the link screen again; use **Connect with Fox Cloud** once more to re-authenticate.

---

## API key (advanced)

If you prefer not to use OAuth, or you need to use an API key (e.g. for a shared or managed Fox account):

1. On the link screen, switch the toggle to **API Key**.
2. Optionally enter an **Account name** (e.g. “Home”) so you can tell this link apart if you add more later.
3. Get your key from Fox Cloud:
   - Go to [foxesscloud.com](https://www.foxesscloud.com) and sign in
   - Open **User Center → API Management**
   - Create or copy an **API token**
4. Paste the token into **Fox Cloud API Key** in Check My Solar.
5. Tap **Link API Key**.

Your key is stored securely and used only to read data. If the key expires or is revoked in Fox Cloud, you’ll need to generate a new one and link again.

---

## After linking

- The app discovers your inverter(s) and loads data. You may be redirected to the dashboard automatically.
- If this is your first time, you may see the [onboarding flow](/docs/getting-started/onboarding-flow/) (guided tour); you can complete it or skip it.
- To add **another** Fox Cloud account or API key later, open the **menu → Account** and use the option to link another account.

---

## Multiple inverters

You can link more than one Fox Cloud account (or more than one API key). In the app menu you can:

- **Switch device** - Choose which inverter’s data is shown on the dashboard
- **Manage accounts** - Add or remove Fox Cloud links

Each link is tied to your Check My Solar account; your notification and rate settings can be set per device where supported.

---

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | What to try |
|-------|-------------|
| “Failed to link” | Check that your Fox Cloud login works at foxesscloud.com and that the inverter appears there. For API key, ensure the token is valid and has not been revoked. |
| No data after linking | Wait a minute and pull to refresh. Confirm the inverter is online in Fox Cloud and sending data. |
| Session expired | Use **Connect with Fox Cloud** again (Quick Connect) or re-enter a valid API key. You stay signed in to Check My Solar. |
