# Forecast

Check My Solar helps **Fox ESS owners** plan ahead with **solar generation forecasts** for today, tomorrow, and the coming days - so you can time loads, check expected output, and get tomorrow’s forecast in a push notification. The app supports optional forecast integrations, including free and premium options depending on what you choose in setup.

## Where you see forecasts

- **Forecast view** - In the dashboard, the forecast section (or forecast tab) shows predicted generation for **today**. With Check My Solar Pro, you can also switch to **tomorrow** and the next several days (e.g. Tomorrow, +2, +3 …).
- **Tomorrow’s forecast notification** - If the [solar forecast integration](#setting-up-a-forecast) is enabled and you turn on “Tomorrow’s Solar Forecast” in [Notifications](/docs/using-the-app/notifications/), you can get a daily push with tomorrow’s expected generation and peak times (Pro required).

## Setting up a forecast

Forecasts are configured **per device** (inverter). Open **Menu → Account** (or **Notifications**) and use the option that opens **Forecast / Solar Forecast** setup (sometimes under “Advanced” or “Notifications” depending on the screen).

1. Choose a **forecast provider** in the setup flow (options may include a free integration or a premium option that requires an API key).
2. Add at least one **roof** (installation):
- **Label** - e.g. “Home”
- **Latitude / Longitude** - Your installation location (e.g. from [MapQuest](https://developer.mapquest.com/documentation/tools/latitude-longitude-finder/) or similar).
- **Capacity** - Installed kWp (e.g. 5).
- **Angle** - Tilt in degrees (e.g. 30).
- **Aspect** - Azimuth/orientation (e.g. 180 for south).
3. If your chosen provider requires credentials, enter the **API key** or other details shown in the app.
4. Save. The app will fetch forecasts (e.g. 48-hour or extended) and refresh periodically.

Free integrations typically need no API key. Premium options may have usage limits depending on your plan. Only one forecast provider can be active per device.

## What’s shown

- **Today (free)** - Expected generation (e.g. kWh), peak times, and hourly charts for today.
- **Tomorrow and beyond (Pro)** - Switch to later days for the same detail. Locked day chips open the Pro paywall when tapped.
- **Peak times** - When the sun is expected to be strongest (where the provider supplies this).
- **Confidence range** - A likely kWh band around the day's estimate. Tap the **i** next to the label for a plain-language explanation of how the range is worked out, why it is tighter on settled days and wider when cloud or showers are uncertain, and how to use it when planning loads.
- **Heat loss** - On hot sunny days, an estimate of how much generation is trimmed by panel heat. Tap the **i** next to the label for a plain-language explanation of what the kWh figure means and how it relates to the headline forecast.
- **Charts** - Forecast curves or bars for the selected day.

Forecast data is **predictions**; actual generation depends on weather and system performance.

## Tomorrow’s forecast notification

- Only available when a **forecast integration** is set up for the device.
- Requires **Check My Solar Pro**.
- Enable it in **Menu → Notifications**: turn on **Tomorrow’s Solar Forecast** and set your preferred time (e.g. 6 PM).
- You’ll get a push each day with tomorrow’s expected generation and peak times.
