PWA & iOS app

Use Check My Solar in the browser, as a PWA, or as the native iOS app with home screen widgets and Live Activities for Fox ESS inverter data.

Updated View as Markdown

Check My Solar runs as a web app at checkmy.solar. You can use it in a browser or install it as a Progressive Web App (PWA). On iOS, you can also install the native app from the App Store-home screen widgets and Live Activities surface your Fox ESS inverter telemetry on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Full details: iOS widgets & Live Activities.

Web (browser)

  • Open checkmy.solar in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc.).
  • Sign in and link your inverter as in Getting started. All features (dashboard, forecasts, notifications, account) work in the browser.
  • For a more app-like experience, use Install or Add to Home Screen if your browser offers it (see PWA below).

Progressive Web App (PWA)

  • Desktop - In Chrome/Edge, look for “Install” or “Add to desktop” in the menu or address bar when you’re on checkmy.solar. This adds a shortcut that opens the app in its own window.
  • Android - Chrome often shows “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”; use that to get an icon and open the app full-screen. Step-by-step for Chrome, Vivaldi, and Nova Launcher shortcuts: Using Check My Solar on Android.
  • iOS (Safari) - Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. The site opens in a standalone window and can send push notifications if you allow them in iOS Settings.

Once “installed,” the PWA can:

  • Open from your home screen or app list
  • Run in a standalone window (no browser UI)
  • Use push notifications (where the browser and OS allow)
  • Work offline for already-loaded pages (limited; data still needs the network)

iOS native app (App Store)

  • Install Check My Solar from the App Store.
  • Sign in with the same account (email or Google/Apple) as on the web. Your inverters and settings sync with your account.
  • Benefits of the native app:
    • Widgets - Small, medium, and large home screen widgets showing live generation, load, grid, battery, and forecast data
    • Live Activity - Lock screen and Dynamic Island view with live solar stats and today’s forecast
    • Haptic feedback - Tactile response when switching time ranges and toggling settings
    • Siri - Voice queries for solar data (where supported)
    • Background updates - Fresher data when you open the app
    • System integration - Notifications and appearance follow iOS

iOS widgets & Live Activities (summary)

The native app includes many widget types (Solar Today, Solar Live, day graph, house load, battery, grid, month, year, forecast, and a multi-period “Today Summary”), mostly in small, medium, and large where supported. Solar Today works for all signed-in users; other widgets typically need a subscription. Live Activities show live generation, battery or export, optional earnings, and today’s forecast on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island (iOS 16.2+, subscription).

See the dedicated guide for a full widget list, size matrix, and Live Activity requirements: iOS widgets & Live Activities.

You don’t need both the PWA and the native app on the same device; choose whichever you prefer.

Notifications on iOS

  • PWA (Add to Home Screen) - Notifications work if you grant permission when the app asks, and in Settings → Notifications for the “Check My Solar” web app. Some features (e.g. daily reports) may require a subscription on iOS.
  • Native app - Notifications are managed in Settings → Notifications → Check My Solar. Same notification types as on web; subscription may apply for push reports on iOS.
