Using Check My Solar on Android

How Fox ESS owners use Check My Solar on Android - Chrome, Vivaldi, PWA install, home screen shortcuts, dashboard, forecasts, and push notifications.

Updated View as Markdown

Check My Solar helps Fox ESS owners monitor their system on Android through Chrome, Vivaldi, or an installed Progressive Web App (PWA) - full dashboard, forecasts, and push notifications from your home screen. The app runs at checkmy.solar; a Google Play Store build is coming soon. Until then, install the PWA or add a shortcut so it opens full-screen like a native app.

Open in Chrome (browser)

  1. Open Google Chrome on your phone or tablet.
  2. Go to checkmy.solar.
  3. Sign in (email, Google, or Apple, same account as on the web).
  4. Complete setup if prompted (onboarding flow).

You can use every feature in the browser tab: dashboard, time views, forecast, notifications, leaderboard, and account settings. See Dashboard overview for a tour.

Install the app (PWA)

Installing the PWA gives you a home screen icon, opens the app without the browser toolbar, and enables push notifications (when you allow them).

Chrome

  1. Open checkmy.solar in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Install using one of these:
    • Tap the Install app banner at the bottom of the screen (if shown), or
    • Tap the menu → Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Confirm when Android asks to add Check My Solar.
  4. Open the app from your home screen or app drawer.

Vivaldi

Vivaldi on Android works well for Check My Solar and supports the same PWA install flow:

  1. Open checkmy.solar in Vivaldi and sign in.
  2. Tap the Vivaldi menu (bottom or top bar, depending on your layout).
  3. Choose Add to Home screen (or Install app if Vivaldi offers it for the site).
  4. Confirm the shortcut name and tap Add.

The installed PWA opens in a standalone window, similar to Chrome.

Add a shortcut (without full install)

A home screen shortcut also works if you prefer not to install the PWA, or if your browser does not show an install prompt:

  1. Open checkmy.solar in Chrome or Vivaldi.
  2. Use Add to Home screen from the browser menu (same steps as above).
  3. If you only see “shortcut” wording and not “install,” that is fine. Tapping the icon still opens Check My Solar quickly.

Shortcuts may open with a slim browser chrome bar; the full Install app option (when available) gives the most app-like experience.

Nova Launcher

If you use Nova Launcher, browser shortcuts and installed PWAs appear on your home screen like any other app icon. After adding Check My Solar from Chrome or Vivaldi:

  • Long-press the icon → Edit (Nova) to rename it, resize the icon, or move it into a folder or the dock.
  • Nova does not require a separate step: Add to Home screen from your browser is enough.

Nova Launcher is a popular choice for organising home screen shortcuts; the Check My Solar icon behaves the same as icons added on the default Pixel or Samsung launcher.

After install: what you get

Once installed or added to your home screen:

  • Standalone window: No address bar (full PWA install) or minimal browser UI (shortcut).
  • Push notifications: Grant permission when the app asks; configure types in menu → Notifications (Notifications).
  • Same account: Settings, inverters, and forecasts sync with the web and other devices.

A native Play Store app is coming soon. Until then, the PWA is the recommended way to use Check My Solar on Android.

Notifications on Android

  1. Open Check My Solar from your installed PWA or home screen shortcut (not only a one-off browser tab).
  2. Go to menu → Notifications and turn on the alerts you want.
  3. When Android prompts for notification permission, tap Allow.
  4. If you miss the prompt: Settings → Apps → Check My Solar (or Chrome / Vivaldi, if you use a shortcut) → Notifications → enable.

Push works best with the installed PWA; some notification features may require a subscription. See Notifications.

Tips

  • Default browser: Chrome and Vivaldi both support install and notifications; use whichever you already use daily.
  • Multiple inverters: Switch devices in Account settings; the dashboard follows your selection.
  • iOS: iPhone and iPad users can use the native iOS app with widgets and Live Activities, or Safari Add to Home Screen. See PWA & iOS app and iOS widgets & Live Activities.
