Connect an AI agent

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, or Grok Bot to read your Fox ESS system from Check My Solar.

Updated View as Markdown

Check My Solar can share your Fox ESS system with a consumer AI assistant that supports remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) over Streamable HTTP. You sign in with your Check My Solar account. The assistant can then read live power, energy history, battery state, the forecast, tariff savings, and the charge schedule.

The assistant cannot change inverter settings or work mode.

Server URL

Use this URL when the app asks for an MCP server or custom connector:

https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp

When sign-in starts, a browser opens. Sign in to Check My Solar and choose Allow read access. The approval page shows the app name and where the connection returns. Approve only the app you meant to connect.

You do not paste a Fox Cloud API key into the assistant.

How remote connections work

Most assistants connect from their own cloud, not from your phone or laptop. Check My Solar must be reachable on the public internet, which this URL already is.

After you connect, enable the connector or app for the chat where you want solar data, then ask a clear question such as “What is my solar production today?”

Claude (web, desktop, mobile, and Cowork)

Claude uses custom connectors for remote MCP servers.

Personal Pro or Max

  1. Open Customize → Connectors.
  2. Select + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Enter a name (for example Check My Solar) and paste https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp.
  4. Follow the authentication prompts. Choose Sign in now or Sign in when needed so Claude can open Check My Solar when it needs data.
  5. Select Add, then turn the connector on for a chat from + → Connectors.

Team or Enterprise: an owner adds the connector under Organization settings → Connectors first. Members connect from Customize → Connectors.

Free plans can add one custom connector. The same connector type works in Claude on the web, Claude Desktop, Cowork, and the mobile apps.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects custom MCP servers as plugins from the Plugins page.

  1. Open chatgpt.com/plugins.
  2. Select the + button, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Enter a name and, if you like, a short description.
  4. Under Connection, paste https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp.
  5. Set up authentication, review the risk warning, and select I understand and want to continue.
  6. Select Create as a plugin, then review the tools ChatGPT discovered.

In a new chat, type @ and select your plugin before you ask about your solar system. Confirm tool use when ChatGPT asks.

Plans and workspaces: full custom MCP support, including publishing for a team, is aimed at ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu workspaces. Workspace admins or owners usually create and publish the plugin for everyone. Pro users can connect custom MCP servers with read/fetch tools; write actions need a Business or Enterprise workspace. Custom MCP setup is web only, not mobile.

If your organization uses the older Apps flow, an admin or authorized member may create the app from workspace or user Apps settings instead, then publish it for the workspace.

Grok (grok.com and mobile)

Grok supports Bring Your Own MCP custom connectors.

  1. Go to grok.com/connectors.
  2. Click New Connector, then Custom.
  3. Paste https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp and complete any authentication Grok requests.
  4. Ask Grok about your solar system. Grok can use the connector when your question needs it.

Connectors are available to Grok users on consumer plans. On Grok Business or Enterprise, a team admin may need to provision the connector in the xAI console before members can use it.

Grok Bot (Cursor)

Grok Bot is Cursor’s consumer agent app (desktop and mobile). It only talks to remote HTTPS MCP servers, not servers running on your laptop.

In any Bot chat, ask it to add Check My Solar as a remote MCP server, for example:

Add a remote HTTPS MCP server named check-my-solar with URL https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp

Confirm the details when the Bot asks, then complete Check My Solar sign-in in the browser if prompted. After that, ask the Bot to read your solar production, battery level, or forecast.

Grok Bot is included with paid individual Cursor plans and some linked SuperGrok or Grok Business seats. See Grok Bot plans for your account.

Gemini

Gemini can add custom apps by MCP server URL in Connected Apps.

Requirements today: personal Google Account, age 18+, Keep Activity on, and (for now) US availability and English only. You add the app on the web; it then works in Gemini mobile apps too. Work and school accounts are not supported for this flow yet.

  1. On a computer, open gemini.google.com.
  2. Open Settings → Connected Apps (under Personal Intelligence if you see that menu).
  3. Under Custom apps, choose Add a custom app.
  4. Paste https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp and follow the prompts, including OAuth if Gemini asks.
  5. In chat, type @ and pick your custom app when you want Gemini to use Check My Solar.

Other assistants

Any consumer product that supports remote MCP over HTTPS can use https://mcp.checkmy.solar/mcp if it offers a “custom connector”, “custom app”, or “add MCP server URL” flow. The assistant should start OAuth itself.

Coding tools (for example Cursor IDE, Claude Code, or VS Code) use the same URL with their own MCP settings. This page focuses on chat-style assistants.

What the assistant can ask

  • Which inverters are on the account
  • Live solar, house, battery, and grid power
  • Generation, import, export, charge, and discharge for a day, week, month, or year
  • Battery state of charge and today’s charge and discharge
  • The PV forecast
  • Import and export prices, and savings for a period
  • The charge schedule, export limit, and work mode (read only)

Disconnecting

Turn off or remove the connector in the assistant’s settings (Claude Customize → Connectors, ChatGPT Plugins, Grok Connectors, Gemini Connected Apps, or ask Grok Bot to remove the server). That stops new calls after the current access token expires. Check My Solar does not yet have a screen that revokes an agent immediately.
